Yeah, I should have put that cheesecake picture under a cut. Part of the reason for this blog is to be less inhibited, and not have to worry that my mom might read it. That's still no reason to be uncivilized.

Attempts at a Superman movie have suffered from a flaw inherent in the mythos: Superman is boring. You can tell an interesting story around him, certainly, but as a character study he's boring as hell. Superman is an aspirational figure, he's the guy that you want to be when you grow up. He's got awesome, incredible power, and he uses that power responsibly. Most people would be changed by that level of power, but Supes will always be a kind and cheerful boy scout. Those are his real super powers: not being corrupted by his own power, and not being crushed by the responsibility that comes with it. You can play Superman as more wishy-washy, but that's more Superboy than man. Discovering that power comes with responsibility is more Spider-Man's thing, anyway. Super-angst is pretty unwatchable. More than anything else, it was the angst that sank Superman Returns. So those are the two extremes that a Superman story has to skate between: Immature and angsty or all ...

At no point did I intend to make this a pony feminism blog. There is clearly a need for such a thing, and fortunately the pony fans of tumblr have risen to the challenge.

I recently babysat a child who entered my room, and upon seeing my massive My Little Pony collection, she ran to my Friendship is Magic shelf and started naming them, and once she got to Celestia, she told me she rapes people. She argued that this running joke trivialized rape. That is a bold accusation, and naturally people denied it. The usually accusations and misinformation came out: She was just hungry for attention, she was trying to get APM kicked off Tumblr, she was a prude who didn't get APM's humor, she was dismissed as a misguided social just...
